Wedding Checklist: It’s All in the Details

Nine-12 Months

  1. Announce your engagement.
  2. Set the date and time for your ceremony.
  3. Reserve locations for your ceremony and reception.
  4. Make a budget.
  5. Hire a wedding coordinator, if desired.
  6. Book photographer.
  7. Book caterer.
  8. Book florist.
  9. Book videographer.
  10. Book band or DJ.
  11. Order the wedding cake.
  12. Register for your church’s pre-marriage counseling or classes, if required.
  13. Begin shopping for your dresses and accessories.
  14. Research honeymoon options.

Six-Nine Months

  1. Gather names and addresses for your guest list.
  2. Make hotel arrangements for out-of-town guests.
  3. Purchase or rent attire for groom and groomsmen.

Four-Six Months

  1. Finalize guest list.
  2. Send save-the-date cards, if desired.
  3. Order invitations, napkins and programs.
  4. Purchase wedding rings.
  5. Register for gifts.
  6. Finalize honeymoon and wedding night accommodations.
  7. Coordinate rehearsal dinner plans.

Two-Four Months

  1. Discuss service with officiant.
  2. Make appointments for hair, manicure and makeup.
  3. Coordinate attendants? luncheon.
  4. Write wedding vows, if desired.
  5. Mail invitations about six weeks before wedding date.
  6. Apply for marriage license no more than 60 days prior to the ceremony.
  7. Write announcement for newspaper.

 

Two Weeks

  1. Purchase attendants’ gifts.
  2. Finish any accessories or party favors that you are making.
  3. Purchase welcome bag goodies for out-of-town guests.
  4. Confirm date to send announcement to newspaper.
  5. Type up a schedule of events for attendants.
  6. Have final dress fitting.

One Week

  1. Provide caterer with total guest count.
  2. Confirm last-minute details with vendors. Make sure payments are ready.
  3. Put together an emergency kit including safety pins, bobby pins, breath mints, a sewing kit, pain reliever, Band-aids, spot remover and other items you might need in a pinch.
  4. Pack for your honeymoon.
  5. If you don’t have a wedding coordinator, designate a family member or close friend to help with unexpected occurrences.
  6. Ask a trustworthy friend or relative to take home any gifts you receive at the reception.

 

One Day

  1. Gather everything you will need to take to the ceremony location.
  2. Rehearse ceremony.
  3. Give gifts to wedding party.
  4. Get plenty of sleep.

Wedding Day

  1. Allow enough time to get ready.
  2. Relax and enjoy!

After the Honeymoon

  1. If you are changing your name, start the process of updating your Social Security card, driver?s license, credit cards, passport, etc.
  2. Have gown cleaned and/or preserved.
  3. Write and mail thank-you notes.
