Hallie Nolan & Spencer Berenz

Hallie and Spencer’s lives had crossed multiple times before they began dating. The stars finally aligned for them when they matched on Hinge in 2020, and the couple never looked back!

“This time, we didn’t let each other go,” Hallie said. “We’ve been together ever since.”

Spencer wanted to create the perfect moment for Hallie when he finally popped the question. He decided to ask Hallie to marry him on her family’s annual trip to their cabin on Lake Vermilion in northern Minnesota for Fourth of July.

“Spencer realized there would never be a ‘perfect’ moment; he would have to create one,” Hallie said. “The [day of], he woke up early, made coffee and tried to coax me out of bed for a sunrise walk on the dock … I noticed his phone strategically wedged between rocks and a GoPro set up by the boathouse.”

Hallie turned around to see Spencer down on one knee with their dog Wilbur beside him. Before she could say yes, she had to ask, “Did you ask my parents?” They laughed, and he reassured her that he had gotten their blessing.

“Spencer proposed with an antique 1931 Old Mine Cut diamond ring from Weir and Sons in Beverly Hills, knowing I had always dreamed of an heirloom-style ring,” Hallie said.

Q&A

Q: What sentimental details did you incorporate into your wedding day?

A: “Many of the decor pieces we used, especially in our seating chart wall and reception design, were things Spencer and I had thrifted over the years,” Hallie said. “Some were items we already had in our home, while others were intentionally collected for our wedding, now re-purposed as keepsakes in our space. The antique books stacked throughout our design were all thrifted on different trips together, and instead of a traditional guest book, we had guests sign vintage postcards we’d collected over time.”

Q: What inspired your florals?

A: “We wanted them to feel rich, textural and timeless—almost like they had been plucked from a 17th-century oil painting,” Hallie said. “The florals perfectly capture that still-life composition, lush, dramatic and filled with rich color and texture.”

Renaissance Reigns

“The overall aesthetic was drawn from Renaissance paintings and Dutch still-life compositions—moody, lush and filled with meaningful details,” Hallie said. “Our seating chart wall, floral design and invitations all reflected that artistic vision. It was important to us that everything felt intentional and immersive.”

Gallery Wall Seating Chart

“One of my favorite details was our seating chart and family wedding photo wall, a display of wedding portraits spanning generations—from our great-grandparents to our parents,” Hallie said. “Seeing those love stories framed together, leading up to ours, was incredibly special.”
