Casey Mynatt & Andrew Weir

Andrew and Casey’s relationship began in 2019 during their first year at the William H. Bowen School of Law. They first connected with a group of friends at Willy D’s Rock & Roll Piano Bar on the very first night and continued to cross paths afterward. A pivotal moment occurred when Andrew noticed Casey waiting for a student internship interview (despite his interview being scheduled much later), and he took the opportunity to chat with her. They officially started dating in late 2020, and their initial connection eventually blossomed into love.

“We’ve been together ever since,” Casey said. “In that time, we graduated from law school, passed the bar exam and have been practicing attorneys for almost four years.”

Casey is from Arkansas, and Andrew is from Colorado – two states proud of their natural parks! She made it her mission to help Andrew fall in love with The Natural State. The two have traveled to nearly all 53 national parks in Arkansas and have discovered so many of the state’s hidden gems. Their favorite state park is Lake Catherine State Park in Hot Springs, and Andrew decided this would be the perfect place to propose. The morning of the proposal, they ate breakfast at Best Cafe and then hiked The Falls Branch Trail.

“When no one else was around, Andy popped the question,” Casey said. “The proposal felt intimate and so unique to our relationship. We spent the rest of the day exploring Hot Springs, enjoying a 70-degree day in February. It was the best day!”

Q: What inspired your wedding day?

A: “We were inspired by the timeless, classic elegance and minimalism of intimate weddings from the ‘90s,” Casey said. “We also wanted the day to feel romantic. We genuinely wanted to look back on our photos for the next 60+ years and have zero regrets or things we would change.”

Q: Did you incorporate anything sentimental on your wedding day?

A: “For the wedding cake, our vintage cake topper belonged to [my] late grandmother,” Casey said. “It is a cake topper from the ‘70s that was found when cleaning out her house after she passed. When I found it, I knew I wanted it to be on my wedding cake. We also had the groom’s parents’ wedding cake topper sitting beside the wedding cake. We also saved the bride’s mother her seat with a memorial linen sign, along with the corsage that had already been ordered for her.”

Q: What moment of the day do you wish you could relive over and over again?

A: “Our private last dance. This was our first moment to ourselves the entire day. This dance was emotional and sweet. We got to really take in that we just committed ourselves to each other for life. We shared our hopes and dreams for the future, and it is a moment that neither of us will ever forget.”

Q: What surprised you about wedding planning?

A: “I was surprised at how much I enjoyed the entire process,” Casey said. “I love to throw and host parties, and it was really a lot of fun to test my skills for what is likely the biggest event I’ll ever be a part of. Planning the wedding was a major creative outlet for me!”

Q: When you look back at your wedding, what part of the day sticks out to you the most?

A: “For both of us, the ceremony,” Casey said. “In addition to traditional vows, we shared personal vows. In the last two years, we have gone through extremely tough times together. Both of our vows acknowledged those hard times and how they made us stronger together but also acknowledged how much good lies ahead for us. Committing to each other publicly in front of our family and friends felt like a powerful declaration of our love and devotion to each other. On top of that, a huge, beautiful monarch butterfly flew all around us during the ceremony. We both know that the butterfly symbolized that Casey’s mom was there just as she had promised. It honestly all felt perfect and such a gift from God.”

Q: What advice do you have for other couples planning their wedding day?

A: “Everyone told us that the planning and wedding day would fly by,” Casey said. “Until you have lived it, you don’t understand how true that statement is. The best advice we can give is to try your best to enjoy it–even when it feels daunting or stressful. Also, document the process. We have hundreds of pictures in our phones from the process–touring the venue, meeting with the rentals company, countless DIYs and turning our spare bedroom into a florist shop. Having the memories to look back on is so special. Finally, if the budget allows, book a content creator! At first, I thought we didn’t need a content creator because I am in no way an ‘influencer.’ Booking a content creator was one of the best decisions I made in the entire wedding process. We had the pictures and videos back within a week and were able to relive the entire day on our honeymoon. She also captured moments that we didn’t get to see, which is priceless!”

’90s Wedding Resurgence

When Casey looks at the flash photos taken on a disposable camera from her parents’ wedding in the ‘90s, all she sees is the love. “I wanted to make sure our love was the highlight of the day,” Casey said. “With the background of timeless, classic details.”

“The E.O. Manees House is such an underrated venue,” Casey said. “We booked the [venue]because it is beautiful all on its own, down to the gorgeous vintage-feel interior, to the string-lit courtyard with beautiful magnolia trees.”
