Music Tip No. 1 — Avoid embarrassing moments
To avoid potentially embarrassing moments on the dance floor — like when the DJ accidentally plays Sir Mix-A-Lot’s “Baby Got Back,” which was not on your list — sit down with your fiance to create a list of songs you both like and won’t mind dancing to in front of the in-laws.
Consider burning your own CD of favorites on a blank disc. That way, there’s no confusion as to what selections to play at the reception. Remember to list the songs and track number, too. Also, have a backup CD handy, just in case.
No. 2 — Musical matches
Make sure the music matches the reception site. A rock band in the church’s fellowship hall might not be welcome, just as a string quartet may not be heard if the acoustics aren’t just right.
After deciding on the location of your reception, check to see if there are noise restrictions in the area and make sure the location has the capacity to support an audio system.
No. 3 — Play favorites but be inclusive
Pay special attention to receptions you attend between now and your wedding. Did they hire a DJ or have a band? How did the couple incorporate their favorite selections to show their personality? Did any of the songs appeal to the crowd more than others?
This is definitely your day, but you want your guests to feel part of the celebration, too.
