What did you wear on your wedding day – a homemade dress, a thrift shop find or an expensive purchase? Through “The Wedding Gown Project: One Day, One Dream, One Dress” (TheWeddingGownProject.com), a writing competition sponsored by author and documentarian Donna Guthrie, women can share the importance of buying, making, fitting, wearing, storing or passing down one’s beloved wedding dress.
“Whether you are a bride-to-be or your wedding took place more than 50 years ago, every married woman has a story about what she wore on her wedding day. Through ‘The Wedding Gown Project’ I want to know why the wedding gown is so important to brides today – and is it still important years after their wedding day,” says Guthrie.
“The Wedding Gown Project: One Day, One Dream, One Dress” writing competition is a non-fiction, memoir, blogging, essay-style contest for any person who is currently planning on buying a wedding dress or has worn a wedding gown. Guthrie is compiling these stories for a documentary she will be working on in 2012.
- Entries must not exceed 500 words.
- Only original and previously unpublished work will be accepted.
- All entries must be postmarked by November 30, 2011 and mailed to: The Wedding Dress Project, PO Box 7288, Colorado Springs, CO 80933 to be included in the competition.
Three prizes will be awarded no later than Feb. 1, 2012: First prize: $250; Second Prize: $100; and Third Prize: $50. A diverse team of authors and industry experts will be looking for humor, sensitivity and new insights in the award-winning entries.
