Megan Mullikin and Bryan “Austin” Logan met on a beautiful snowy night when a mutual friend invited them to the same party. The heavy snow made Austin’s truck the only safe vehicle to drive, and after riding together, the two spent all night talking and laughing. Austin asked Megan out a few weeks later, and the next semester he transferred from Arkansas Tech to UAM to be with her.
Austin proposed to Megan on the patio of her grandparents’ condo on Lake Hamilton. During the meal beforehand, Austin accidentally spilled ketchup on Megan’s blouse while trying to feed her a french fry. Megan’s sister kept telling her that she needed to change clothes, but Megan, who thought they were just going bowling, saw no need. After Austin set up, Megan’s sister told her to come to the patio to see someone on the lake.
Here’s the story in Megan’s words:
“When I opened the door, he was on his knee inside a flower petal heart holding my ring. Both of our families and close family friends were hiding on the patio to watch the surprise proposal. It was dusk dark outside and garden lights were twinkling overhead. Gold balloons that spelled out will you marry me were hanging up. We celebrated by having champagne and handmade engagement cookies with everyone as the sun set over the lake. It was absolutely beautiful, even with a huge ketchup stain on my shirt!”
Megan and Austin tied the knot at a stunning wedding at First Baptist Church of Star City. The unique reception at Star City Civic Center incorporated rich jewel tones of gold, sapphire blue, emerald green, amethyst purple, crystal white and dark pink.

On the bride’s fashion: “Attached to my bridal bouquet were two gold filigree hearts. One was to symbolize my late father and one was to symbolize my late Nana. The diamond bracelet that Austin gave me on our first look, was also worn during the wedding ceremony and reception. It was absolutely beautiful and a complete surprise.”
On the reception theme: “Our reception style was inspired to be like a romantic fairytale garden. We wanted the reception to feel as if you were walking into a romantic fairytale garden at night. We both have always loved being outside so our vision was to bring the outside, inside. We wanted florals everywhere, especially cascading from the ceiling! We incorporated walls and hedges of boxwood greenery everywhere. There were crystal glowing trees throughout the wedding. Mine and Austin’s favorite color is blue and along with the other rich jewel tones they really set the night to be so romantic and a true fairytale!”
On the cake: “The bride’s cake was suspended from the ceiling as if it was floating in air. There were cascading florals around the base of the cake that almost touched the floor. It was huge! This cake was one of the centerpieces of the room. One touch that we loved was the drawing of the cake that was framed next to the real cake that Natalie Madison drew when we had our meeting together. The two huge butterflies were my absolute favorite! They looked real and as if they had just landed on the cake.”
On the groom’s look: “Austin looked timeless for his wedding day. Austin was dressed in a traditional black tuxedo that was tailored to his measurements. He wore a floral pocket square instead of a traditional boutonniere that was so neat. The boutonniere covered the entire pocket, unlike the traditional boutonniere. He wore a gold and silver oyster Rolex watch given to him by me as a wedding gift. Austin had always dreamed of a Rolex, so it made the perfect accessory for him to have. He hopes to keep the Rolex in the family for many generations as an heirloom.”
On the escort: “My Daddy Bill (grandfather) escorted me down the aisle. He is 91 years old and the sweetest man in the world. He has always been a big part of my life. We grew up a few blocks from my grandparents and after my father died when I was a little girl, he has always been by my side for any daddy-daughter events. He is known around our home town as Daddy Bill by everyone.”
