My grandparents eloped when they were in their early 20s. It was a secret they shared for decades, before finally revealing it to our family during a Thanksgiving reunion. Their elopment was such a big secret because they ended up having a regular wedding later (one my grandmother’s parents paid for). I think they felt guilty for not telling their parents; they still don’t like to talk about it. But it just seems silly to me, because their love story is so romantic set in 1940s America. Back then, however, I’m sure secret elopments were more taboo than they are exciting – not to mention financially savvy – nowadays! Anyway, I tell you this to say that when it comes to elopements, I find them very blog worthy! 🙂
That’s why, when photographer Karen Segrave, a regular to Arkansas Bride‘s Photographer Favorites section and owner of Photograpby by KES Weddings, sent me these pictures from Jerrica and Pryor‘s elopement, I just had to show them to ya’ll.
Jerrica shares their story here:
Pryor and I met in 2007, while both working at the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette (he was a reporter, I was a copy editor). Our wedding date is special because it is three years to the day after we decided to pursue a relationship. Unfortunately, the day after we decided to date, he had to go out of town for several months, so we communicated via email and actual letters. There is nothing more romantic than receiving actual letters from the guy you’re interested in! It was a great way to get to know each other more intimately without letting the romance slip away.
Neither of us work at the Democrat-Gazette now-he works at Pulaski Academy as a computer technician, and I work at Pulaski Technical College as an English instructor. We decided to elope versus having a large wedding because we wanted to make it just about us. We couldn’t have been more pleased with the way things turned out. We’ll have a reception later on, but right now we’re just focusing on enjoying the rest of the summer together.
Sigh. So romantic!
