Backyard Brunch

VENUE: Scope out local historic homes and/or plantations with large yards and ample parking. Try to find a venue that has dishes, linens, tables and chairs included in the price. Save even more if you find a friend or family member willing to let you use their private grounds (maybe even for free). $750
RENTALS: If your venue doesn’t include basic rentals, remember the cost to rent tables ranges from $7-$12, depending on the size of the table. Chairs range from $1-$8, depending on the chair you select. Linens can range from $7-$70, again depending on what you select. $500
DÉCOR: Create a Southern-charm atmosphere with lovely linens and silver. Use fresh flowers and greenery to add the finishing touches. The cost for flowers has increased dramatically because of fuel cost, so consult your florist to help you in selecting flowers that will give you the most “bang for your buck.” $3,000
FOOD: Select a caterer that specializes in brunch food. This menu gives you the most for your money. Serve a Southern menu, including: smoked salmon, garlic cheddar grits, egg casserole, seasonal fruit, and angel biscuits with honey butter and strawberry preserves. $3,000
DRINKS: Make sure your venue will allow you to furnish your own liquor. If so, serve Mimosas and Mint Juleps along with juice and coffee. You’ll need to buy champagne, gin and mixers. Have your caterer furnish the bartenders. $850
MUSIC: Country or bluegrass music would complement the Southern setting and brunch fare, and many Arkansas musicians are experienced in those genres. Find an acoustic guitarist to play your favorite country tunes during the meal or a bluegrass/blues band for afternoon yard-party atmosphere. $750
