Washington University in St. Louis first brought Bentonville native Brittany Robertson and Casey Ransom of New Jersey together. It was at Brittany’s Mardis Gras celebration where the two met and “immediately connected,” she says. After dating for a while, the couple moved to Dallas, where they began shopping for an engagement ring. Just months later, Brittany was convinced that he was going to propose during a romantic dinner, but he didn’t. “I was convinced it would never happen,” she says. To make it a total surprise, he proposed right when she walked in the front door of their home after her first day of yoga teacher training. “I could not believe it, literally!” Brittany says.
BRIDE’S INSPIRATION
Brittany’s Badgley Mischka gown was her main source of inspiration. The couple already knew they wanted a classic black-tie wedding and Brittany’s beautiful dress fit perfectly within the theme. In fact, individual details of the dress became a source of inspiration for specific décor—from the sparkly beading on the cap sleeves of the dress, Brittany knew she wanted silver sequin table runners and chair covers to match. The color palette of the elegant affair was very neutral with white, ivory and silver.
HOW THEY CUSTOMIZED
The couple really wanted to showcase their personalities in every aspect of the wedding. This especially rings true with the groom’s cake, which was in the shape of a green recliner with their two dogs, Patty and Lola; his guitar; a shotgun; and a Bud Light. This particular recliner with a cup holder is something that Brittany has despised for awhile. “He knows how much I dislike the chair, but he refuses to get rid of it, so I wanted to surprise him and have a 3D version of the chair made as the base of his groom’s cake,” Brittany says. And because the two met at a Mardis Gras reception in St. Louis, they wanted to incorporate the New Orleans celebration in some way. Their signature drink was the Hurricane with signs up at the bar that said “Our Love is Like a Hurricane.”
A FATHER’S LOVE
One of the moments that Brittany will never forget is seeing her dad for the first time before he walked her down the aisle. “We immediately started crying when we saw each other and didn’t stop until after the ceremony,” she says.
