Couples looking for a wedding night or honeymoon destination in Arkansas have choices that range from romantic bed and breakfasts to first-class hotels and resorts.
One of the state’s most scenic locations is Petit Jean Mountain in Morrilton. With its spectacular vistas and wooded landscape, Petit Jean is also home to Tanyard Springs Resort. “It’s absolutely breathtaking,” said Kathy Primm, honeymoon specialist at Sue Smith Travel in North Little Rock.
Another popular destination for new couples is Hot Springs. Centrally located, Hot Springs offers leisurely strolls down Bathhouse Row, browsing in art galleries, shopping at a number of new stores and fine dining. The city’s newest attraction is Garvan Woodland Gardens, a 210-acre botanical garden featuring a variety of floral landscapes. Outdoor enthusiasts also can enjoy water skiing, boating or other water sports on the area’s three lakes. For more information on Hot Springs, call (800) SPA-CITY or visit www.hotsprings.org.
Another nearby draw for newlyweds is the historic town of Eureka Springs. With its winding streets, quaint shops and Victorian homes, this northwest Arkansas town is the ideal spot for one romantic night or an entire week of them. Find turn-of-the-century charm at the Crescent or Basin Park hotels, where many rooms offer spectacular views of the Ozark Mountains.
While there, honeymooners can tour historic homes and visit the famous Thorncrown Chapel, a church constructed of more than 6,000 square feet of glass on Arkansas 62 West. For more information about Eureka Springs, call (888) 387-3520 or visit www.eurekasprings.com.
Couples headed to the airport on the day after their wedding may choose the convenience of spending the night in Little Rock. Primm often directs honeymooners to the Baker House Bed and Breakfast, located in North Little Rock’s Argenta District. The “absolutely gorgeous home really takes you back,” Primm said. Popular spots in downtown Little Rock are The Peabody — with its newly redecorated rooms, gourmet dining and the famous Peabody ducks — and the Capital Hotel, which is known for its Southern hospitality and colorful history.
Those who spend more time in Little Rock can enjoy the clubs and restaurants of the River Market District or shopping in the historic Heights neighborhood. Couples may even catch a concert at North Little Rock’s Alltel Arena or the Riverfront Amphitheater. Find out more about Little Rock at www.littlerock.com.
