Arkansas Engagement: Bethany Langston of Malvern & Joshua Berry of Arlington, Texas

Little Rock residents Bethany Langston of Malvern and Joshua Berry of Arlington, Texas are engaged to be married Aug. 18 at the State Capitol Building, followed by a reception at the Temple B’Nai Israel. Congratulations! Here’s their stories on how they met:

Bethany’s Version
Joshua and I met in college during Sig Ep Bonfire Fall 2006. I will admit, at first I was not impressed by his “humor” though I did notice the tall drink of water with a goofy charm about him.

For the next two years, I viewed Joshua as nothing more than a friend/close acquaintance, then in the spring of 2008, sparks started to fly as I became newly single. Flirtation grew rampant and Joshua and I started, simultaneously, looking for excuses to spend time together. I mean, the boy jumped at the chance to help me plan the Miss Henderson pageant. What man would do that if he weren’t chasing after the woman in charge?

We spent more and more time with friends and eventually alone until we knew we would be more than friends. On May 11, 2008, after a float trip gone wrong with Joshua’s parents and some of our mutual friends, he kissed me for the first time.

We flew back and forth all summer visiting each other and when fall came, we were officially a couple. A year later, when I felt the same way as I did during our first kiss, I knew he would be the only one I would be kissing for the rest of my life.

Joshua’s Version
A slew of mutual interests brought the two of us together. From friends, fraternity and school activities, it nearly seemed hard to get away from the woman. 😉

Whether it was stubborness or just plain not wanting to admit it, for a year and a half or so I always claimed Bethany was not someone I was interested in. I didn’t have much choice, but that quickly began to change. The more I grew to know and appreciate Bethany, the more I tried any excuse to be around her whether it was sneaking away during events or going as far as joining an organization.

I like to think she just “fell in my lap,” but I definitely did what I could to put myself in that position.

In spring of 2008 things began to heat up between us. Nobody else had ever stirred up such emotion and such a rush inside of me as Bethany could, furthering my desire to be more than friends. I knew it was meant to be when I realized she was doing what she could to be around me as well.

We started as friends, became best friends and she remains my best friend today.
