Designing By Inspiration: Tips for Planning a Wedding Cake

Coming up with ideas for your wedding cake can be a bit overwhelming. But it’s important to have your cake ideas ready before you meet with your cake designer for the first time. Here are some ways to help inspire and prepare you for that consultation.

  • A good place to start is by deciding what your style is — traditional, elegant, romantic, fashionable, modern or simple.
  • Take inspirations from different elements in the wedding such as the theme, the invitations, special jewelry or embellishments on the wedding dress.
  • Look at other wedding cake designs online or in magazines and draw inspiration from them. Pick out elements that you like the most on those cakes and show them to your cake designer.
  • Using your wedding colors on your cake is a nice way to tie it in with the rest of the reception décor.
  • Handmade sugar flowers are a unique design element on wedding cakes; they can be colored to match your decor or made into fantasy flowers that glimmer and sparkle.
