It’s amazing what a little paper can do for your wedding! A simple save-the-date and invitation with a distinctive font, color and graphic can set the tone for the whole production.
Full-service paper store The Social Type in The Heights realizes this, offering just about every style, color and type of invitation you can imagine.
The store specializes in wedding invitations, birth announcements, stationery, kid and party invitations, greeting cards, and more.
We were able to catch up with Mickey Searcy Willett, owner of The Social Type, 5819 Kavanaugh Blvd., Little Rock, and she gave us the inside scoop on things you might not know about her or the store:
- When she acquired the store at the end of 2012, it was still named Molly’s Paperie. It wasn’t until January when the store was officially changed to The Social Type– a name that Willett wanted to form her own identity with. “I wanted to make it my own and give it a more modern look and feel,” Willett said. Stop by the store Thursday, Feb. 28, to celebrate the new name, ownership and look of the store! Drop-in from 6 – 8 p.m. and enjoy 20 percent off all stock and custom orders.
- Willett has several years of experience in the paper industry, starting out traveling across Arkansas servicing stationery and specialty gift stores. “I was intrigued by the variety of paper products stores had to offer and ways people used invitations,” she said. She then became the store manager of Molly’s Paperie, where she helped run the store for four years.
- In addition to all of its paper products like invitations, announcements and stationery, the store offers specialty product lines that are exclusive to the Little Rock area.
Vendor Q&A
Engraved, letterpress or thermography? Letterpress!
One piece of advice that you give brides when it comes to choosing their invites? One piece of advice I always give brides is the invitation you select sets the tone for your wedding. It is the first thing your guests see. It’s like making a “first impression.” Also, knowing the look you want for your wedding is very important when selecting the invitation.
Colorful or classic? It depends! For wedding invitations, I tend to go more classic elegance. For party invitations, I like to go more colorful and fun. It all depends on the occasion!
Best wedding stationery trend of the season? Edge painting! Edge painting is usually used on a thicker invitation and adds that little extra detail that really sets an invitation apart from others. Other trends include foil letterpressing and calligraphy.
Stationery splurge you wish every bride would go for? Go the whole nine yards! Paper should play a role from the beginning to end. From a save-the-date to stationery and all things in between, including programs, table numbers, food labels. The details bring everything together. And you can never go wrong with 2-color letterpress, edge painting, and envelope liner for invitations and stationary. The extras take a wedding to the next level and top off an unforgettable celebration!
