Real Wedding: Macye Kate Dean & Austin Pryor Wade of Searcy

Macye Kate Dean of Weatherford, Texas & Austin Pryor Wade of Murfreesboro, Tenn.

Wedding date: April 30, 2011

Ceremony and reception location: Alda’s Magnolia Hill

The Love Story: Austin’s roommate and my roommate were dating. They wanted their friends to meet the person they were dating to see what we thought. A group of us went to hang out one night and Austin and I were in the car with our dating roommates. We both felt awkward, so Austin responded to the awkwardness by pushing the hazard light button in my car. He used to do this with his friends to annoy them and the second he pushed the button in my car he became embarrassed. On the other hand, this action caused me to notice Austin for the first time. Now he loves to say, “I had you at hazard lights.”

What was your overall inspiration? I knew I wanted to have sunflowers and blue is my favorite color, so blue and yellow sounded like a great plan. The color combination also gave everything a vintage feel, which I also wanted.

What were the interesting personal touches and unique details? We didn’t want too much décor. Instead, we wanted to keep the ceremony and reception as simple as possible, so we used a variety of flowers at the reception to keep the outdoor feel. One unique detail was the groom’s cake. I had it designed with different figures that remind me of Austin, such as a guitar, dog, cat, golf clubs, grill, etc.  nother unique detail was that my father made the wedding cake. No, that is not his profession either, but it was GREAT!

What one detail truly made the wedding yours? I think the venue made the wedding ours. I came in a carriage and Austin and his brother came in a canoe.  Our entrances were unique and made the day special. The setting was beautiful and very “us.”

How did you customize? We aren’t extravagant people, so we simply enjoyed the outdoors at the venue and let that do most of the decorating. We also had a ton of our engagement photos to decorate tables as well as lots of fresh flowers.

How did you save money? We saved money by having a friend do all of the flowers.  She got several of the flowers from the half-price section at the flower shop.  Also, having a  friend do my make-up was great since she already knew what I wanted and I trusted her completely.

Tell us a little bit more about the day, how did it go? The day went perfect!  It was supposed to rain but we tried not to panic because we knew it was out of our control. It sprinkled while Austin and I were taking pictures before the ceremony, but we just shrugged it off and one of my photographers went and found an old umbrella which resulted in really fun and unique photos. During the ceremony it was overcast, which made it perfect for pictures. It started raining shortly after Austin and I left the reception. One big (hilarious) mishap was during photos, before the ceremony, a bird pooped right on the back of my dress. It was a great addition. J
