Mickey and Cory grew up only miles apart – Mickey in North Little Rock and Cory in Little Rock – but they didn’t meet for real until freshman year at the University of Arkansas. As their college years progressed, so did their relationship, and this past summer, the college sweethearts wed in an elegant affair full of personality.

How They Customized
Mickey and her florist, Phil Cato with About Vase created a one-of-a-kind lemonade bar. It became a large focal point at the reception. The décor included plateaus of real lemons, silver punch bowls and four different lemonade options. Other than regular lemonade, guests had the option of customizing their drinks with raspberry, strawberry or pomegranate flavorings or they could opt for a mock Arnold Palmer. The straws for the lemonade bar were hot pink and white striped, diner style, paper straws. Each had a flag wrapped around reading “Mickey and Cory.” Adding a twist to the signature cocktail, we used the lemonade theme and created signature strawberry lemonade cocktail that was topped with skewers of fresh fruit. Phil and Donny came up with the “make you smile when you walk into the room” feel because of the colors and the smells. The color palette in the Garden Room was hot pink and bright yellow with green accents and several pink beaded chandeliers hung over the lemonade bar. It was a burst of color when you walked in and gave a completely different feel than the other rooms.

Our Favorite Idea from their wedding:
The couple hired artist, Isaac Alexander to set up in the ballroom during the reception and paint a scene from their big day. “He chose to capture our first dance. Not only is it beautiful, but it is a piece of art that Cory and I will have forever,” Mickey said.

Bridal Inspiration
“It all began when we unpacked my mother’s wedding dress for the first time since her wedding. For fun, my sister suggested I try it on. Once I slipped it on, that was it. The dress, ironically being one of the easiest pieces in the wedding process puzzle was the starting place for inspiration.”

Floral Inspiration
“I wanted something different and something unexpected. When I met with Phil Cato of About Vase, I didn’t have anything concrete in mind, but in no time ideas were flowing and I was very excited. Phil suggested using white lacquered magnolia leaves along with hot pink Latin breeze roses, red bouvardia and purple lisianthus thus inspiring the color palette of fuchsia, red, and an accent of grape.”

What detail truly made the wedding yours?
“Wearing my mother’s wedding dress and veil. For fun, my sister suggested I try it on. Once I slipped it on, that was it.”
