There’s nothing like a little duck gumbo to bring people together. Hannah and Jesse met through mutual friends at the Duck Gumbo Festival in Stuttgart in 2013. Jesse, a United States Navy veteran, decided to continue in the military as an Arkansas Army National Guardsman. He proposed just before leaving for basic training and the couple’s wedding was only a few weeks after Jesse’s homecoming from a yearlong deployment overseas.
The Inspiration
Hannah wanted “a romantic overall feel but with rich, warm undertones.” With the wedding in chilly December, she knew she wanted people to feel like it was a warm, welcoming space with a sense of elegance. She found the elegance and grandeur she was looking for in the St. Edward Catholic Church and at Albert Pike Masonic Temple.
How They Customized
Music to Our Ears
PROCESSIONAL
“Cannon in D”
FIRST DANCE
“Heaven” by Boyce Avenue
FATHER-DAUGHTER DANCE
“Sunrise, Sunset” by Louis Armstrong
Hannah’s favorite customization was a watercolor crest designed with the couple’s monogram, which incorporated their favorite flowers, wedding colors and pets. Their cake designer, Natalie Madison, was even able to hand carve the crest to add to the top tier of their cake.
Family pictures were displayed in the foyer along with Hannah’s mother’s wedding gown, which was made by Hannah’s grandmother.
Instead of wedding favors, the couple honored Jesse’s military service by making a donation to Pro Duffers Southwest Chapter, an organization that serves homeless veterans in central Arkansas.
