Fifteen minutes — that’s how long the drive is between Atalie Mickelson and Nathan Crider’s hometowns of Alma and Van Buren. And though it took years for the two to eventually cross paths, it only took a matter of days for them to realize they were looking at a new forever.

When Nathan was stationed in California with the Air Force about a year later, Atalie flew out to visit him, where he surprised her with dinner on a yacht and a proposal under the stars on San Diego Bay. He even proposed with a treasured ring that once belonged to Atalie’s late grandmother.

The Inspiration

Atalie’s love for early 1900s style may have been the basis for the wedding inspiration, but it was so easily summed up in The Crescent Hotel, that they hardly had to do more than let it shine through the rest of the decor. The couple chose to complement the hotel’s vintage atmosphere with a neutral and natural palette of whites, creams and soft blues accompanied with era-appropriate touches.

How They Customized

Stepping away from the more mainstream glitz, Atalie and Nate opted for more organic pieces, adorning the space with crops like wood, cotton and wheat. Her father constructed the arch for the ceremony while her mother put together the table arrangements and Atalie designed and created the invitations and menu cards.
