Although St. Louis native Samantha Bode and Kyle Coker both lived in his hometown of Little Rock, and despite having many of the same friends, the two never met. They had heard of one another, but their paths never crossed. That is, until one friend reached out and invited Samantha to a Mardi Gras party at Kyle’s house. A first date followed shortly after.
About three years later, the couple was busy settling into the new home they had purchased together with a back deck overlooking the bluffs on the Arkansas River. That lookout quickly became their favorite spot in the house, and that feeling only intensified when Kyle proposed to Samantha there, framed by a perfect backdrop fitting of The Natural State.
The Inspiration
The goal was to emulate a backyard dinner party under the stars, which the couple achieved with long tables, simple décor and a classic color scheme of navy, gold and ivory (with burgundy and pink floral accents).
How They Customized
Keeping with the laid back atmosphere, much of the decorations came from the couple. Kyle used his woodworking skills to build the cake stand, and Samantha made the glitter vases and the handcrafted signage. She even pulled most of the florals together herself.
In lieu of a fancy meal, they called on their favorite local food trucks: Southern Salt Co. for dinner and Loblolly Creamery for the groom’s treat.
Samantha attached her late grandmother’s brooch to her bouquet, and the two used the same cake cutting utensils that her grandparents and parents used at their weddings. The cutest part, however, was including their son Bode in the ceremony as their “ring bear,” complete with a fuzzy bear onesie.
