KATV anchor and Oxford, Mississippi, native Erin Hawley met her future husband while rocking a hairnet. She had to put on full surgical scrubs while interviewing ophthalmologist and Mena native Evan Newbolt. Little did she know, his office manager decided to play matchmaker, making sure Erin’s phone number made it into Evan’s hands.

Fast forward two years and Erin was busy fixing up her new home. After work, she expected to meet Evan at the house to see the shelves her dad built. What she didn’t expect was to open the door and find Evan on one knee surrounded by flowers, balloons and both of their families.

The Inspiration

With a summery backdrop like Wildwood, Erin and Evan knew they wanted to let the natural beauty of the park set the scene for the ceremony and reception. To complement the setting, the couple chose simple, organic details with vibrant florals to accentuate the bright greenery

How They Customized

Erin rolled up her sleeves for many of the event’s DIY touches, including hand-painting all the invitations and gathering secondhand treasures. This contributed to the day’s relaxed vibe, going hand-in-hand with the reception’s lawn games, frozen drinks, s’mores bar, glow sticks and sunglasses.

And while the guests might remember the 100-degree heat wave that hit just in time for the wedding, there’s one thing that they’ll remember more: the fireworks, literally. Evan and Erin both love watching fireworks displays, so they made sure to end their perfect evening under a sky filled with sparks.
