Real Arkansas Wedding: A Peek at KTHV-Little Rock Weather Anchor Meredith Mitchell’s Wedding

Little Rock native Meredith Mitchell and Joshua Leal of Fairfield Bay were hearing a lot about each other from their mutual married couple friends. Eventually a dinner with all four of them was arranged, and “even though we didn’t sit together, we had wonderful conversation across the table,” Meredith recounts. After a second date, the sparks between them were obvious, and on Thanksgiving Day in 2011, their relationship took the next step.

“Josh, being the cook that he is, had prepared an entire turkey and wanted to break the wishbone,” she says. “Before I knew what was happening, he was on one knee saying that he hoped one of my wishes was the same as his — for us to spend a lifetime together.”

HOW THEY CUSTOMIZED

Josh’s love of Star Wars made appearances in the groom’s cake and table and in an exit complete with lightsabers. The couple’s favorite comfort foods made their mark at mac and cheese and slider bars, and Josh’s “doctor’s cure” of Diet Coke and whiskey was available for guests as the couple’s signature cocktail. Finally, jars of pepper jelly made from a family recipe served as wedding favors.

As a Little Rock weather anchor and reporter for KTHV Channel 11, it’s no surprise that Meredith wanted to pause for a silly snapshot with her groom at the Museum of Discovery’s own interactive “weather channel” news room, KMOD.
