Juliet Young of Juliet Young Photography is next up in our “Meet the Photographers” series. Juliet has been a professional wedding photographer since 2011, with a brief year-long break after giving birth to her daughter.
When Juliet was in college, she actually got two very different degrees — a bachelor degree in fine arts (graphic design) and biology. (She wanted to be a dentist!)
We chatted with Juliet about what she was doing before photography, her style and how she unwinds after a long wedding weekend.
What did you do before you became a photographer?
I was a Graphic Designer, a Dental Assistant, a Veterinary Nurse… I love trying new things! I’ve never been the type of person who feels that you should have just one job your entire life. I love trying a good variety of things.
How would you describe your photography style?
My style is DREAMY! I love very soft and romantic images that feel like your reliving your wedding day in a daydream. I love delicate details and minimalist images that feel like a breath of fresh air.
What are moments you make sure to capture on a wedding day?
Besides what my clients want, I always make sure to capture a lot of mother of the bride moments. As a mother, I have such a special bond with my daughter, and I sometimes feel that it’s always about the father of the bride or the mother of the groom. I believe that the MOTB plays such a huge role in the wedding day and the preparations. I never want her to feel overlooked.
What do you love about being a wedding photographer?
The intimate moments I get to witness is the absolute greatest. Like most wedding photographers, I find myself sobbing during vows and first looks. Because we come so close to our clients during the process, and we play such a big role in the wedding day, I often feel like I am getting to have exclusive privileges to be part of the best and most private moments. I will always cherish that.
What’s your favorite part of photographing a wedding?
I LOVE the “getting ready” part of the day! It is when the couples are most authentic. I also love the quiet moments of anticipation right before the ceremony… those will always have my heart!
What price points can brides expect?
My prices start around $2,200.
What’s one piece of advice you like to give brides on their big day?
I believe there is way too much emphasis placed on small things, such as place settings or catering. What really matters the most on your wedding day is that you walk away married to your true love. If you have done this, your wedding was successful! Don’t sweat the little things!
When you’re not shooting weddings, what do you like to do with your spare time?
I love to just spend time with my daughter and my husband. I soak up every single moment I can with them.
What’s your favorite way to unwind after a busy wedding weekend?
By RESTING! It’s so incredibly important as entrepreneurs that we rest and not ever feel guilty about needing to unwind!
