After an adorable engagement – Michael, a Fireman for the Bryant Fire Department, asked Jamie to marry him in a fire truck bucket that was attached to a ladder 100-feet-up in the air on Father’s Day – Jamie Burt of East End and Michael Newton of Redfield were married on May 14, 2011 in front of 120 family members and friends.
Ceremony location: Little Rock’s First Baptist Church
Reception location: Park on the River, Maumelle
What was your overall inspiration? The color yellow and spring. We wanted to tie in the season we were getting married in with the overall feel of our wedding. The lemon and lime idea came from the color that we picked for the wedding.
What were the interesting personal touches? There were personal touches throughout the entire day. The ribbon on my bouquet and my veil being from my mother’s dress; the check white and yellow table cloths, the homemade lemonade and lime-aid served, handmade candy favor bags; our lemon/lime cake with alternating flavor tiers of lemon and vanilla; the fire truck groom’s cake; sparklers for the getaway….
What one detail truly made the wedding yours? The color yellow, believe it or not. Any one that knows me, knows how much I love yellow and why I love yellow. When you look at the color yellow it just makes you happy and brings a smile to your face. So having so many details in the wedding with the color yellow was special.
How did you customize your wedding? We customized by involving family. My grandfather, a Baptist pastor, preformed the wedding ceremony. That was something I have always wanted since I was a little girl. Having my veil made from my mother’s wedding gown as well as my bouquet being wrapped from the lace from her wedding gown. Also, adding touches of firefighter décor made our wedding more about us.
How did you save money? We saved a lot of money by doing a lot of things ourselves. We handmade our wedding invitations and bulletins. We also had many family friends that helped out with some of the biggest parts of the wedding. For example the pastor, DJ, caterer and cake maker were all family or friends of the family.
