Little Rock newlyweds Crystal and Vernon Trotter are a match made in … an AT&T store. It’s true. The pair recalls how a fellow customer played Cupid for them on that fateful day, when Crystal came in for a phone repair and Vernon (an AT&T representative at the time) came to her aid. While waiting, the stranger encouraged a love connection between the two. And now, this beautiful Real Wedding is evidence enough of the unknown customer’s surprising success as a matchmaker.

Eye of the Peacock

The color scheme – inspired by the bride’s desire to incorporate the plumage of a peacock – featured a vibrant palette of aqua, navy and lime green. “I knew that I wanted something different,” Crystal said. “I actually chose peacock feathers before I knew it was one of the hot wedding themes for 2010.”

The myriad of colors plucked from the peacock feathers stood out strikingly in the setting of the Arkansas Arts Center. Her chosen hues also translated into bright bridesmaids’ gowns and groomsmen attire, and Crystal even donned custom Chuck Taylor Converses for an added punch of color and personality.

Creating Atmosphere

The couple expanded on the Arkansas Arts Center’s contemporary setting to create an intimate environment for their friends and family. For the ceremony, the couple said “I do” in front of an ultramodern floral backdrop dreamed up by Distinctive Designs by Tanarah. For the reception, the couple wanted guests to mingle and socialize, so they skipped the assigned seating and arranged for a cocktail lounge near the bar. There, guests sipped on Crystal and Vernon’s signature cocktails: the “Crystaltini” and the “Trotter Thunder.”

Family Ties

Staying true to themselves, the couple incorporated several tradition-breaking elements and special details for their families. For example, in memory of late relatives, flowers were placed in a special memorial vase, and instead of a groom’s cake, the couple hosted a dessert bar to honor his deceased mother’s catering business (Trotter Treasures). Cookies and milk shots, cheesecake and chocolate-covered strawberries were among the treats served.

Passing off the Planning

Although Crystal said she and Vernon avoided worrying about the small things at their wedding – like seating charts or flower choices – the duo did mandate some perfectly personalized plans for the day. She chose Chrisette Michele’s “Golden” for her walk down the aisle, and their first dance was set to the Usher ballad, “There Goes My Baby.”
