Paige McPhail and Marty Duda’s friendship started when they met in elementary school in Springfield, Mo., but it turned into something more when they began high school and started dating their freshman year. As they grew up together, Paige and Marty’s love grew deeper, even as they attended college 500 miles apart. A proposal came, and after a two-year engagement, the childhood sweethearts said “I do” in front of 70 their closest family and friends.

How They Customized

The invitations and cake were designed to replicate the windows and lattice work that surrounded the reception space. Paige included her grandfather’s Veterinary Association pins on her bridal bouquet. The pins were handed down to her from grandmother on her the day of the wedding. Marty’s grandfather kept the tradition of performing the couple’s vows, as he has done for 3 of his other grandchildren.

Ways They Saved
Paige’s family friend, who also happens to be a florist, allowed her to work for her during the summer in exchange for most of the floral costs. They also took advantage of “local treasures” such as the reception band and the favors.

Bride’s Inspiration
“The overall inspiration was definitely the Conservatory Room at the Crescent Hotel. We wanted to keep the very light and natural feeling that the room created while highlighting the brightness of the windows and the earth tones of the wood.”

What detail truly made the wedding yours?
“The intimacy of our wedding was the most special aspect of that day. Marty and I tend to be uncomfortable around large groups of people so we wanted to feel completely at ease on that day. This was one of the best decisions we made, as we were totally relaxed the whole day and could feel the sincere love of all of our closest friends and family.”
