Although their families knew each other when Kimmy and Sat were growing up in Hawaii, the two never actually met until years later at a family dinner function. There was instant chemistry between the two at this fateful meeting; and Kimmy and Sat started dating right away. A year later, Sat proposed. Kimmy said “yes” and they began planning an unforgettable, culturally rich wedding—complete with a traditional Chinese tea ceremony and an amazing American reception.

What detail truly made the wedding yours?
“Everything was simple with a touch of elegance. I’m not a person to go overboard or all out on something, but I like to add feminine characteristics to everything.” The hint of crystals everywhere was also very me.”

How They Customized
Sticking with tradition, they had a Chinese caterer that served a nine-course meal and included the Chinese tea ceremony. Kimmy wanted to incorporate femininity into the design of her wedding cake, which featured a ribbon effect and brooches, but let Sat pick out the cake toppers which they had custom made to look like them and included Sat’s favorite character, Superman.

“The surprise of the day was when my brothers, my cousin Mike and sister Amy surprised me by singing ‘Meet Me at the Alter’ by Jagged Edge. Yeah, my sister did the rap portion of the song!”

Bride’s Inspiration
“I wanted to keep the house and temple ceremony traditional, so that planning was left to our parents to ensure all traditions were incorporated. As far as the reception, I wanted elegance and modern décor. The main colors were purple and silver. Purple is a rich color full of character, so it has always been my favorite.”
