AUSTYN IRWIN & DAVID (TREY) WALTER ROSE III

September 16, 2023 | The Reserve at Hot Springs | Hot Springs | Jayce Keil Photography & Videography

Austyn and Trey have a history of overlapping mutual friends all throughout high school, which led to them eventually meeting in college. They had never met and began dating nine years ago.

“I knew that Trey was the one quite early on,” Austyn said. “His deep care and love for his family and those that are important to him is a quality that I observed very early on in our dating relationship. Trey loves with intent, selfless in nature, and I knew these were qualities that I wanted in my future husband. It sure helps that he is absolutely hilarious and that he shares my love of music, art, and outdoors.”

Austyn and Trey love fly fishing so they try to go every chance they get. Trey decided this would be the perfect opportunity to pop the question, so the two spent a weekend in a cabin on one of their favorite Arkansas rivers with two of their closest friends. While watching the river for trout, Trey offered to change the fly Austyn was using. When she turned around, he was down on one knee!

Q & A

Q: Was there a detail you knew you couldn't live without while planning?

A: “Throughout my life, all celebrations, accomplishments and milestones were accompanied by a specific cake, from a specific bakery,” Austyn said. “Italian Crème Cake from the long-standing, locally-owned Ambrosia Bakery in Hot Springs has been a staple celebratory indulgence. There was no question that that cake would be served on my wedding day.”

Q: What inspired your color palette?

A: “We have always had a penchant for the more classic aesthetic of white and gold,” Austyn said. “This paired naturally well with the green used, my favorite color. In addition, we both have many outdoor hobbies such as fly fishing and camping, [so we gave] the palette a personally meaningful characteristic.”

Q: Tell us about your wedding gown.

A: “Aesthetically, I wanted to have a classic, simple, and yet timeless look,” Austyn said. “I was able to find a dress that satisfied each of these, all [the] reasons why I loved my dress. The moment I put it on in Low’s Bridal, I felt the most beautiful I can ever recall feeling, and knew immediately that it was the dress I was going to wear walking down the aisle.”

Q: What was your favorite moment of the day, and why?

A: “The ceremony was far and away my favorite moment,” Austyn said. “We decided against doing a first look, and so the ceremony was our first time together that day. We wrote our own vows, and that was an ineffably meaningful experience. Expressing our love for one another in our own words in front of all our friends and family was something that I will never forget.”

Q: What surprised you about planning a wedding?

A: “The number of decisions required throughout the process was quite surprising,” Austyn said. “There were an abundant number of small-detail decisions involved that we didn’t anticipate. We wish we had known beforehand how quickly time seems to fly by during the wedding planning process. The importance of meticulous and thorough organization was also something that we had to learn in real time.”

Q: What is your secret to wedding planning success?

A: “Invest in a wedding planner. Our experience with Amy and her team was perfectly pleasant,” Austyn said. “It was a decision that we found to be very beneficial, both in the quality and quantity of assistance and in the organizational faculties. The natural wedding planning stress was dramatically attenuated. We also found it useful to remind ourselves throughout the process that the wedding day was ours and ours alone, and that our preferences were paramount.”

WORTH-IT WEDDING DAY SPLURGES

“The string quartet we used during our ceremony was one thing that was overwhelmingly worth it,” Austyn said. “Playing multiple instruments ourselves, we are big music lovers, and the quartet was entirely worth the expense. It completed the visual and auditory aesthetic of our ceremony.”
