Queens of the Castle
Sam and Jess started talking online Spring of 2016: Sam living in Fayetteville, Arkansas and Jess in Springfield, Missouri. They weren't interested in something long distance, but by some chance they found each other, started talking and became fast friends.
One Saturday Sam braved the 3 hour drive to meet Jess in person for the first time. They got takeout and spent the day watching bad movies on purpose – and then coffee the next morning before Sam made the drive back and Jess had to go to work. They clicked instantly; both a little goofy, bonding over writing and art. Jess didn’t last long before moving down to Fayetteville.
Sam first fell in love with Jess’s sense of humor – and the way she’s happy to laugh at her own joke if Sam doesn’t think it’s funny. Jess first fell in love with Sam’s authenticity (and their freckles). Kindness and intentionality became the foundation of their partnership. They promised to give each other grace, stick through the hard stuff, and find delight in the everyday.
"The first time we ever talked about the possibility of getting married, we imagined our perfect day as running away to a forest with our officiant. We couldn’t have even dreamed the way that vision of our intimate, whimsical day would come to life in an event we got to share with our most important people. The day surpassed our vision in every way. We were joined by our parents, most of our siblings, and a couple of close cousins at Stonehaven Castle in Eureka Springs on February 23, 2021–a Tuesday. Our ceremony was held privately on the top of the castle’s tower with the two of us and Sam’s cousin Joseph ordaining. Our families waited on the ground below, unable to see or hear the proceedings. The ceremony was followed by a family dinner, cake, and celebratory drinks!"
