Arkansas Engagement: Laura Watson of Crossett & Stephen Huffman of Wynne

Laura Watson of Crossett and Stephen Huffman of Wynne — both residents of Conway — are engaged to be married Aug. 18 at the Pulaski Heights United Methodist Church in Little Rock. A reception will follow at Loft 1023.

Here’s their cute proposal story!

On Saturday, Nov. 19, 2011, the Arkansas Razorbacks played Mississippi State in Little Rock at War Memorial. A fun-filled day of tailgating and hanging out with friends. The only downfall to this game: it was opening day of duck season! Stephen told me at the beginning of the season he would not be at this game and to sell his ticket. So of course I did and was sad he couldn’t make it for all the festivities, but glad he was doing what he loves to do — duck hunt.

The day began perfectly — having mimosas with my girls and getting ready at the Caldwells’ house! Erin and I went to pick up cupcakes from Cupcakes on Kavanaugh — nothing out of the ordinary for a big game day. Later that afternoon one of my best friends, Mollie, came to hang out. What a surprise! My day couldn’t get any better than this. We all had a blast grilling and hanging out all day until game time. Little did I know my life would change forever.

It’s time to walk to War Memorial. The guys left ahead of Lindsey and I, as we always wait until the game starts to leave the house. We head to War Memorial, get a hot dog, go to our seats and are ready to cheer on the Hogs! As halftime approaches I am ready to leave — Brian insists that I stay until the third quarter is over because he drove all the way from Alabama to watch this game and I just need to stay. So I agreed.

In the third quarter of the game, I am talking to everyone around having a blast. Out of the corner of my eye I look and there stands Stephen with a huge grin on his face! He is dressed the part for the game, and I said, “Where did you come from?” I was excited, but just knew he would duck hunt all weekend. He got down on one knee and grabbed my hand (the wrong one …). It hit me, “This is really happening.” “Will you marry me, Laura?” I don’t know if I said yes, I was so excited jumping up and down, crying in complete shock! This was the perfect proposal, and I am so thrilled to marry my best friend and the love of my life!!!
