Searcy natives Kristen Hale and Steven Woodson (now a resident of San Antonio, Texas) are engaged to be married Nov. 10 at The Brick Room in Conway. Check out this adorable engagement story in Kristen’s own words.
Steven and I were driving down JFK in North Little Rock when I saw the going out of business sign in the window of one of my favorite dress shops. I gasped and stated that boutique was where my mom and other members of our family got their wedding dresses, and it was also where I purchased my prom dress.
Steven, being the wonderful boyfriend he was, suggested we go by and look at the sale dresses the next day. I refused, stating something about not ‘jinxing’ our relationship by looking at wedding dresses before we were actually engaged, and that I had hoped they would still be around for me to find that perfect dress.
As soon as the words exited my mouth, Steven pulled the truck into the next parking lot. He hopped out of the truck, grabbed his work boot from the back seat, and walked around the truck, still holding the boot. The boot was a nice touch, because I was more baffled by it than why he was pulling into an empty parking lot.
Steven opened my door, pulled me outside and wrapped his arms around me … still holding the boot. He was smiling from ear to ear when he said, ‘Kristen, I love you, I’ve wanted to do this for a very long time, and this thing is burning a hole in my boot!’ Steven pulled a small box from the boot and knelt on one knee. He was asking the question I had been so eager to hear come across his lips, for me to be his forever, and I wasn’t even paying any attention! I was so distracted by the ring and realizing what was happening that I forgot to even respond! I was speechless!
Steven patiently asked again, and this time I took his face in my hands and said ‘of course I will marry you!’
