Here’s a special treat for you all this Fourth of July holiday! It’s a stunning engagement session from Melissa McCrotty Photography. Kathryn Young and Lance Shingleur and their “Blueberry Hill” inspiration make for one of the most adorable and memorable engagement sessions we’ve seen this year! And it’s no surprise that these two lovebirds knocked it out of the park with an awesome engagement theme, after their amazing Christmas-time proposal pix!
Here’s what Melissa had to say on her blog about the session: “When they told me about the blueberry farm, on Lance’s grandparents’ land, and the piano they wanted to incorporate, “BLUEBERRY HILL” popped in my head….(thanks to my dad’s influence, I am embarrassingly linguistic in the hits of the 40s, 50s, and 60s.) We found the sheet music, and Lance’s mom baked the pie…..and our theme was born!”
Now, you’ve got to read the adorable couple’s take on their love story. It’s a good one!
Kathryn’s version:
“I started going to Pottsville A/G (where Lance grew up) when I was 10. Lance and I were immediate friends that summer and became best friends over the next year. (I was 10 and Lance was 9.) The summer that we were both 11, we attended church camp together. That week, I decided that being friends was not enough, so I bribed one of my good friends to ask Lance to be my boyfriend, to which he replied “I guess.” And, that’s where it all started!
We were grade-school sweethearts for about a year, and then I broke Lance’s poor heart. He grieved (LOL) for “months” and watched from the sidelines as I dated other guys. We were still very close friends throughout those four years, and then, during my junior year of high school and Lance’s sophomore year, Lance (this time) decided he wanted to be more than friends and actually drummed up enough courage to “ask me out” on MSN Messenger on Jan. 1, 2007. And the rest is history!”
“All that is very true! HOWEVER: I have a ‘side to the story’ too! Love at first sight is not just a “make believe cliche!” Believe me, I’ve witnessed it first hand! The very first time I saw Kat, I KNEW. I just, knew! So began my pursuit!
However, like Kat said, she’s the one who asked me out. We dated for, what seemed like a lifetime, and call me weird, but I REALLY think I was in total love. While everything was going great, she very unexpectedly ripped my fifth-grade heart out! It was VERY traumatic. (Just ask my mom). And while she dated other guys for four years, I just kind of sat around waiting on Kathryn to REALIZE WHAT SHE’d LOST! (No, really, I waited because I knew!)
Years later, an opportunity presented itself, and I took advantage! I asked, she said yes. And here we are, five-and-a-half-years later, happily engaged and planning the rest of our lives together. JUST LIKE I pictured it to be back in fifth-grade!”
Is that not the cutest thing you ever read? Now we can’t wait to see their wedding photos!
