KRISTINA LASKER & EDET NSEMO
October 2, 2021 / Hillbrook Farms, Twin Groves

Edet and Kristina met in 2016 while attending Loyola University Chicago School of Law, but they didn’t start dating until Jan. 2020. When he was getting ready to propose, Edet prepared an event space and livestreamed the moment to family and friends. Kristina walked into the space, thinking she was helping a friend choose a caterer for a wedding, and was completely unaware that she was about to be greeted by her closest friends and family. Then her eyes fell on Edet, on one knee, with a ring in hand.

THE INSPIRATION

Kristina and her mom, Rosa, planned the wedding. Originally, they were going to get married on Lake Beaverfork, but after a week of rain, mud would dominate the décor. They were fortunate to book Hillbrook Farms as an alternative venue only 23 hours before the wedding was set to begin.

HOW THEY CUSTOMIZED

Edet and Kristina are very much “less is more” type of people. They opted for small vases with florals of different types and colors in each one. Kristina couldn’t choose only a couple of colors for her wedding, so she chose to include them all in some way. Kristina even asked all their friends and family to wear as much color as they were comfortable with, so that the guests could be immersed in the décor. Above all else, they wanted their reception to be very intimate. They let the natural beauty of the venue shine and went for subtle beautiful touches.

Kristina found her perfect Jenny Yoo dress online and when she tried it on, she felt like a feminine, elegant princess in it. She paired the gown with a pearl studded veil, white Sam Edelman strappy heels and a blue garter. Edet designed her yellow gold ring with an oval diamond.

Donny at Formally Modern Tuxedo in Chicago helped Edet with a custom suit that incorporated all that he likes best about the modern look with traditional style. They chose a deep blue sharkskin fabric for the three-piece suit and added cool things to the jacket like “Standing By” embroidered in white against the inner lining and “10-2-2021” sewn into the underside of the jacket collar. He had a white gold ring.

PattiCakes bakery created a two-tier lemon cake with vanilla buttercream and whipped frosting.

“I wanted our décor to be simple so as to not take away from the beauty of where we were.”
