Elleott Amick & Tyler McKay

Stone Chapel at MattLane Farm

Elleott Amick and Tyler McKay met way back in middle school. Eleott was on the gymnastics team and Tyler was the new kid at school that happened to catch her eye.

When it came time to propose, things didn’t necessarily go smoothly for Tyler. Elleott’s family was headed to Montana for a vacation. Elleott was going to fly in from Dallas to meet them in Utah before continuing the drive to Montana. But she fell asleep at her gate in Dallas and missed her flight. She panicked and called Tyler, who was secretly boarding a flight to come to Utah and surprise her. Elleott was able to get on another flight and Tyler ended up meeting her in Utah (which was still a surprise!).

The couple and Elleott’s family drove from Utah to Montana. After they got checked into the rental house, Elleott’s mom had flowers delivered — but little did Elleott know those flowers were part of a secret proposal! Elleott’s mom told her to get ready for family pictures and Elleott realized that she was really the only one getting ready.

“As we came around the side of some trees I saw a blanket and beautiful flower arrangements in a clearing," Elleott says. "I immediately started crying and asking if he was joking. We had been waiting 10 years for this day! I started looking around and my siblings were hiding in trees capturing all of this! After the proposal, my mom brought out a cake she had baked in Texas and driven all the way to Montana.”

On the dress: “When I first started looking at wedding dresses I had decided I didn’t want anything fussy. The word bling made me cringe after watching so many ‘Say Yes to the Dress’ episodes. I chose Lovely Bride in Dallas because they had different overseas designers. I had one appointment in December and thought I had found the dress, I decided to wait on it and made a second appointment in April. After trying on about 10 dresses and just feeling okay about them the bridal consultant passed me one last dress in the last 10 minutes of the appointment. It was the dress! As soon as I turned around my mom was crying and face-timing my two sisters simultaneously (prior to group Facetime aka on two phones).”

On the flower girl dress: “My flower girl wore a dress I had worn as a flower girl almost 20 year prior to our wedding day. My brother had found it in the garage as him and my parents were cleaning it out. My husband had dubbed our wedding the royal wedding of Arkansas jokingly, so we went all in and our ring bearer wore an ivory silk jumper much like Prince George.”

On the wedding inspo: “I wanted a romantic garden party with ivory linens and gold accents. I am a flower connoisseur so having flowers everywhere and in bright colors was really important to me. We incorporated bees into the invitations and our monograms because my parents have beehives and are beekeepers, their honey was our wedding favors!”

On the ceremony decor: “The ceremony site was outdoors with a beautiful stone backdrop. I wanted everything to look overgrown with florals. Bartus had fashioned a nice white grid system to bring a little bit of a modern touch to all of the florals. With the ‘theme’ being an outdoor garden party Bartus had lined the aisle with beautiful stone pots full of ivory florals.”

On the reception style: “The building itself is really cool because of the stone columns and light fixtures. I wanted it to look like the outside was brought in. Bartus had Pigmint wrap the columns in vines and flowers which made it look like they had grown into this building. Another ‘theme’ of our wedding was family so we had farmhouse tables and family-style dishes. I wanted it to be easy for people to talk and get to know each other.”

On the stationery: “Bartus had monograms hand-painted that depicted the stages of our lives. On the save-the-date there are two bees close together but not yet together, depicting our engagement. On the invitation there are two bees flanking ‘E&T’, each one depicting Tyler and I. On mine and Tyler’s dinner chairs Bartus had slipcovers hand painted with each of our initials ‘EM’ and ‘TM’ with two bees down at the bottom next to each other, depicting our marriage.”

On their wedding cake: “I love a fruity cake! We had lemon and strawberry cake from Briar Rose. I wanted it to look simple so we had ivory icing and then a little floral arrangement. Tyler’s cake was much richer. He had a layered chocolate cake with raspberry filling and chocolate icing. He loves the outdoors so they made little pine trees out of icing that sat on the top, it was perfect for him!”

On their first dance song: “I surprised Tyler for his 22nd birthday and took him to Chris Stapleton in Oklahoma City. Since seeing him we have seen him two more times. A song that really stood out to us was ‘More of You.’ It doesn’t seem as new, he’s really bluesy, so I think it’ll still be nice to listen to in 10-15 years.”

On Elleott’s favorite moment of the day: “My favorite moment of our wedding day was Tyler called me the morning of the wedding asking if I had the wedding rings. He usually remembers everything so for him to be anxious enough to forget who had the wedding bands was cute to me.”
