New voter registration card, who dis?

There are a number of things that are a complete pain to get changed after marrying your boo and changing your last name (Social Security cards, passports, driver's licenses... the list goes on). Luckily, registering to vote in the Nov. 6 election is not.

Here's what you need to know:

The Deadline

Time is ticking but you can still register to vote under a new name or address before Oct. 9, 2018. That means your voter registration application must be either postmarked on or before Oct. 9 or you must fill out and turn in your application in-person on or before Oct. 9.

Find Out Where You're Registered

There's a handy website from the Secretary of State's department that lets you check to see where you're registered. (If this is your first election in Arkansas, click here.) Once you've pinpointed where you last voted, you're ready to fill out the forms to change your name and/or update your address.

Request a Name and/or Address Change

  1. First, print and fill out this Arkansas Voter Registration Form. (Pay special attention to boxes A and B at the bottom of the page and remember to fill in the date underneath your signature.)
  2. Either mail in your form or hand it over in-person at your county clerk's office, any DMV location, any public library or Arkansas State Library or any local voter registration drives. If you're mailing in your form, address it to Arkansas Secretary of State ATTN: Voter Registration P.O. BOX 8111 Little Rock, Arkansas 72203-8111.
  3. Now you wait. You should receive your new voter registration card in the mail in the next couple weeks but if you haven't received confirmation of your registration towards the end of the month, check your registration status before Election Day.

Pretty easy, huh? If you have any questions about the process or run into any problems, make a quick call to your local county clerk or the Arkansas Secretary of State office at 1-800-482-1127.
