Time to Book the DJ or Band

This pivotal time in your planning means it’s time to make the final decision on any wedding pros you’re left to lock down. By now, we hope you’ve chosen a florist and wedding planner, booked a caterer, bought your wedding gown, reserved rentals, started cake tastings, and even sent save-the-dates.

And with so much focus on the food and décor, wedding music is often overlooked until last minute. However, the best bands and most sought-after DJs book six months to a year in advance.

Not sure who to hire? Peruse our list of more than 100 musicians in Arkansas. Not sure how much to spend on music? Here’s a quick breakdown of what to expect:

Ceremony Music

  • String quartets (for two hours) can cost anywhere from $400-$1,200.

  • Harpists (for two hours) can cost up to $600.

  • Soloists: Many professionals are available for hire, but consider asking a family friend or church acquaintance to perform. They typically perform for free, but do plan to tip them or give them a thank you gift.

  • Organists tend to be included in your ceremony venue fee, otherwise, an additional $50-$100 fee may apply.

Reception Music

  • DJs (including four hours of music, emcee service, and basic audio/lighting equipment) can cost from $400-$1,000.

  • Well-known party bands (including three hours of live music, emcee service, and audio equipment) can cost anywhere from $2,500-$8,000, and often require reimbursement for travel beyond a certain region.

  • Booking agents eliminate a lot of legwork from the music search for brides, and these companies tend to charge about $500 less than self-managed talent.
